Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Social Work is an undergraduate course in Social Work, facilitated by many colleges of Delhi University, a dream come true course for those who wish to make a difference to the society and the way our society functions. These colleges are:-

  • Aditi Mahavidyalaya
  • Bhim Rao Ambedkar College.

Since the centralized pre-admission form is not applicable to it, Students need to apply separately for this programme.


Both the institutions offer different no. of seats and also, hold a separate entrance examination for the course.

Course Details: It’s a 3-year full-time programme consisting 6 semesters i.e. 2 semesters/year.

Eligibility: 10+2 in any discipline from a recognized college or Board.

Semester 1- Beginnings of Social Work, Fundamental of Social Work, Sociology for Social Work, Concurrent Field Work, Concurrent – Qualifying Language (College specific)

Semester 2- Basic Concepts in Psychology, Contemporary Social Concerns, Social Psychology, Concurrent Field Work, Concurrent – Credit Language (College specific)

Semester 3- Working with Individuals, Working with Groups, Social Deviance and Social Problems, Concurrent Field Work, Concurrent – interdisciplinary (College specific)

Semester 4- Community Organization, Communication and Development, Physical, Mental and Community Health, Concurrent Field Work, Concurrent – Discipline Centered-I (College specific)

Semester 5- Social Policy and Social Development, Social Legislation and Human Rights, Social Action and Movements, Areas of Social Work Practice-I, Concurrent Field Work

Semester 6- Social Welfare and Administration, Research in Social Work, Areas of Social Work Practice-II, NGO Management, Concurrent Field Work, Discipline Centered-II (College specific)

Fee Structure: On an average- 16000/- per course

Scope


There are many future scopes/aspects that you can choose from, after having a B.A. (Hons.) degree in Social Work. The main sectors are:

Academics- One can proceed further for higher studies to get depth knowledge such as

  • MA in Social Work
  • Phil. in Social Work etc

After obtaining these higher degrees, you can choose a career of teaching/lectureship with a lucrative salary and also go for research work in Sociology.

Other than these, B.A. Hons in Social Work programme prepares you and makes you eligible for a variety of entry-level careers such as in child and family welfare, protective services etc.

Salary– It may vary depending on your Employer as well as the profile you get in your job. On an average, it is around 2.5 lakh per annum but can go up to 6.5 lakh per annum.

You can work in/as:

Various NGOs, educational Institutions, Corporations, Criminal justice areas, Human activist, Research organizations, Newspaper article writer, content writer on Social issues etc.

One can also opt for Social Service or charitable works if one wants.

With the coursework in social work practice, sociology, psychology, research method etc. as well as the field experience in the same (as inscribed in the syllabus of this course), a Social Work graduate gains the required skills to work as a social worker of family, child, school etc; a healthcare social worker and many more.
