BAMS full form means Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery. It is an undergraduate 5 and half year program that offers you entry in different ayurvedic colleges of India. Ayurveda is also popular in countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, and other South Asian countries. BAMS is based on of the oldest and ancient forms of treatment Ayurveda which is based on the fact that “kapha, pitta and vatta” are the three major reasons of diseases.

What is BAMS?

BAMS is a 5 years and 6 months integrated program which has been divided into 3 parts; 1.5 years each and also includes the 1-year internship. In the first part, the students are taught physiology, anatomy, and history of the Ayurvedic system, in the second part, the students are toxicology and pharmacology and the third part, surgery, ENT, gynecology etc are taught. 

BAMS Scope

Candidates after graduating in BAMS can be hired in government and private ayurvedic clinics. After successful completion of Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery, BAMS Doctor Salary varies from 25,000 – 35,000 Rs/month as the consultant in government hospitals. BAMS Scope and salary as an ayurvedic medical officer in the government hospital has the pay scale of Rs 15,600 – 39,100 and grade pay of Rs 5400. BAMS Admission Process

BAMS Admission Process differs from one institution to another. Some of the government institutions take admission through NEET. Other institutions conduct their own Ayurveda Entrance Exam. 

BAMS Course Eligibility

If you are looking to get admission in BAMS, then minimum BAMS Course eligibility to appear for the exam is 10+2 or equivalent examination with subject physics, chemistry and biology and preferably Sanskrit. There are certain minimum qualifying marks for BAMS Course Eligibility. The candidate must qualify national and state level Ayurveda entrance exam. Some of the institutions organize their own BAMS entrance exam.  The age limit for appearing for BAMS is 17 – 25 years. Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery is popular among the students who want to make their career in the field of medicine. For the first part, BAMS course syllabus includes topics like History of Ayurveda, Sanskrit and Samhita, Padartha Vigyana (Ayurvedic Philosophy), Rachna Sharira (Anatomy) and Kriya Sharira (Physiology). For the second part, ayurvedic doctor course includes Dravyaguna (Materia Medica of Ayurvedic), Rasa Shastra avam Bhaisajya Kalpana (Pharmaceuticals of Ayurveda), Nidan/Vikriti Vigyan, Charaka Samhita, Agadtantra, Vyavahar Ayurveda and Vidhi Vaidyaka (Toxicology and Jurisprudence) and Swasthavritta yoga (Personal and Social hygiene including dietics). In the third part, BAMS course syllabus includes Shalya Tantra (General surgery and parasurgical techniques), Kaya Chikitsa (General medicine including Panchkarma, Rasayana and Vajikarna), Shalakya Tantra (ENT, Eye and Dentistry), Medical Ethics, Yoga, Prastuti tantra avam Stri Roga (Gynecology and Obstetrics), Kaumara bhritya (Paediatrics), Health Regulations and Dissertation. 

BAMS Course Fee Structure

As compared to the medical fee, BAMS Course Fee Structure is comparatively low. The average BAMS Course Fee Structure varies from 8 lakhs to 15 lakhs for top private colleges. For government colleges, the BAMS Course Fee Structure is minimum. 

BAMS Doctor Salary    

BAMS Doctor Salary depends upon the experience, professional skills, and proficiency. As a fresher, you may get Rs 25,000 – 30,000 per month.
