A candidate must possess a Bachelor”s Degree in any discipline from a recognized University or posses such other qualification equivalent thereto and must have adequate knowledge in Computer application.
Age limit: Minimum and maximum age criteria for the Assistant Section officer post in Odisha Secretariat service in Home Department is given below.
Candidate must have attained the age of 21 (twenty-one) years and must not be above the age of 32 (thirty-two) years on the 1st day of January 2018. However, those who are within prescribed age limit as on 1st day of January 2013, 1st day of January 2014, 1st day of January 2015, 1 st day of January 2016 & 1 st day of January 2017 shall also be eligible to apply i.e. he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd January 1981 and not later than 1 st January 1997.

Important information regarding the online application fee to be paid for the Odisha Public Service Commission – Assistant Section officer post-2018.
- A candidate is required to pay a non-refundable and non-adjustable fee of Rs. 300/- (Rupees three hundred) only.
- Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe of Odisha and Person with Disability (whose permanent disability is more than 40%) are exempted from payment of this fee.
The examination will be conducted in the following successive stages:
- Written Examination, (Objective Type- Multiple Choice Questions)
- Skill Test in Computer (Practical)

Only those candidates who have been shortlisted after the written test shall be called for the Skill Test in Computer (Practical) by the Commission as provided in Exam pattern section which shall be of qualifying nature. One has to secure at least forty percent of the total marks inthe Skill Test to qualify it.
The Commission shall be competent to fix up the qualifying marks in any or all the subjects of the examination

- Except for the Skill Test in Computer Application (Practical), the questions in all other subjects shall be of multiple choice type and all questions will cany equal marks i.e. 01
- For each wrong answer, 0.25 marks shall be deducted from the marks awarded for correct answers.
- The candidates shall answer the questions in English except for Odia language paper or otherwise specified in the question paper itself.
- Only those candidates who have been shortlisted after the written test shall be called for Skill Test in Computer by the Commission which shall be of qualifying nature.
