Given, A and B are two destinations. A car goes from A to B at an average speed of 64 km/hr and returns to A at a slower speed. If its average speed for the whole journey is 56 km/hr.

Average speed of car = 2xy/(x + y)

Where x and y are speed for onward and return journey.

$(\Rightarrow \;2 \times 64 \times \frac{y}{{64\; + \;y}}\; = \;56)$

⇒ 128y = 3584 + 56y

⇒ 72y = 3584

⇒ y = 49.7777 = 49.78 km/hr
