A can do a work in 36 days and B in 12 days. If they work on it together for 3 days, then what fraction of work is left?
We know that A, B can do job separately in 36, 12 days respectively.
Let the amount of work they do be W.
Amount of work done by A in 1 day = W/36
Amount of work done by B in 1 day = W/12
⇒ Total work done in 1 day = W/9
⇒ Total work done in 3 days = W/3
⇒ Remaining work left = W - W/3 = 2W/3
⇒ Fraction of work left = (2W/3) /W = 2/3
∴ Fraction of work left = 2/3
