Divide Rs. 8000 into two parts so that simple interest on first part for 3 years at 5% p.a. may be equal to simple interest on the second part for 5 years at 9% p.a.
1). Rs. 5000, Rs. 3000
2). Rs. 6500, Rs. 1500
3). Rs. 6000, Rs. 2000
4). Rs. 4500, Rs. 3500
Let us divide Rs. 8000 into two parts as Rs. x and Rs. (8000 - x) and equate the simple interest for both the cases.
We know, Simple interest = (P × R × T)/100
⇒ (x × 5 × 3)/100 = [(8000 - x) × 9 × 5)/100
⇒ x = 24000 - 3x
⇒ x = Rs. 6000
⇒ 8000 - x = Rs. 2000
∴ The two parts of the amount are Rs.6000 and Rs. 2000
