Two points A and B are 900 m apart. Car X starts from point A towards B at a speed of 45 km/hr., while another car Y starts from point B towards A at a speed of 63 km/hr. and they stop at the meeting point. What is the distance of the meeting point from point A?
1). 245 m
2). 375 m
3). 525 m
4). 655 m
When two bodies are moving in opposite directions, their relative speed is the sum of their individual speeds
⇒ Relative speed = 45 + 63 = 108 km/hr = 108 × (5/18) = 30 m/sec
⇒ Total distance covered = 900 m
⇒ Time taken by the two cars to meet = Total distance covered/relative speed = 900/30 = 30 sec
Now, the distance between the point A and the meeting point is equal to the distance covered by the car X in 30 seconds,
⇒ Speed of car X = 45 km/hr = 45 × (5/18) = 12.5 m/sec
∴ Distance between point A and meeting point = 12.5 × 30 = 375 m
