Two trains of lengths 75m and 95m are moving in the same direction at 9 m/s and 8 m/s respectively. What is the time taken by the faster train to cross the slower train?
1). 120 seconds
2). 130 seconds
3). 150 seconds
4). 170 seconds
Since, both the trains are going in the same direction,
∴ Relative speed = (9 – 8) m/s = 1 m/s
Note: When a train passes a platform or a long object, the distance travelled by the train, while crossing that object, would be equal to the sum of the lengths of the train and length of that object.
∴ Sum of the lengths = 75 + 95 = 170m
We know that:
Speed = Distance/Time
∴ Time required to cross the slower train by faster train = 170/1 = 170 s
Hence, the required time for faster train to cross the slower train is 170 seconds.
