The correct word is 'bleak.' Even without this word we can understand what the sentence wants to say because of the word 'bare' which means 'without the appropriate, usual, or natural covering.' So bleak means 'not hopeful or encouraging; unlikely to have a favourable outcome.'$

Oblique: neither parallel nor at right angles to a specified or implied line; slanting$

League: a collection of people, countries, or groups that combine for mutual protection or cooperation.$

Bleary: (of the eyes) looking or feeling dull and unfocused from sleep or tiredness.$
