Self inductance is the phenomenon by which an opposing induced e.m.f. is produced in a coil due to change in the magnetic flux or current associated with the coil.

We know,

$( e=L \frac{dI}{dt} )$

(No negative sign as taking only magnitude into consideration)

where, e is the induced e.m.f.

dI/dt is the rate of change of current in the coil at that instant

L is the self inductance

$(or, \; L=\frac{e}{dI/dt}=\frac{volt}{ampere\; second^{-1}}=V A^{-1} sec=Henry (H))$
