Renaming -means give a new name to.

Rechristening -means to give a name to (anything), esp with some ceremony.

Redundant- means not or no longer needed or useful.

Regressed- means a return to a former or less developed state.

Refute- means prove (a statement or theory) to be wrong or false. ?

Rebate- means a partial refund to someone who has paid too much for tax, rent, or a utility.

From the given sentence it is evident that 'New India' was a new name given to an existing newspaper after it was bought by Annie Besant.

Thus words (A) and (B) are the best fit words for the given blank making option 1 the correct choice.

Complete sentence:

1917 was also when Annie Besant bought an English daily, $The Madras Standard, and, renaming/ rechristening  it $New India, made it South India’s leading paper. $
