In an examination, it is required to score 32% of the aggregate marks for a student to pass the exam. Shelly scored 240 marks and was declared fail by 32 marks. Find the aggregate marks.

Let the aggregate marks be X

Minimum passing marks = 240 + 32 = 272

⇒ 32% of X = 272

⇒ X = 272 × 100/32 = 850

∴ The aggregate marks = 850
