Penalty:

Penalty is sort of fine for non-fulfilment of terms of contract.

Every contract usually should contain certain provisions for the penalty for the breach of terms and conditions of contract as for not maintaining the progress, for delay in completion, for bad work, etc.

Generally, contractor is liable to pay penalty, an amount equal to 1% of the estimated cost of the work for every day that the work remains unfinished after the due date.

The maximum limit of the penalty is 10% of the total contract amount.
