Correct Answer: To have enough money to live on and nothing extra.  

The idiom ‘live from hand to mouth’ means ‘to have just enough money to provide for food, shelter, clothing and nothing else’.

An example sentence is: ‘After the recession and the economic depression, he was forced to live from hand to mouth’.
