Let the number of Friends at starting time = P

According to given condition:

⇒ P × 20 + 15 × 12 = (P + 15) × 16

⇒ 20P + 180 = 16P + 240

⇒ 4P = 60

⇒ P = 15

Hence, 15 friend are at starting time.
