The error lies in part 3 of the sentence as the verb 'were' in simple past tense is incorrect. The sentence mentions a fact or a perception of a person so the tense will always remain simple present tense. Thus 'were' should become 'are.'

Correct sentence - He tried to say that we see the world, not as it is, but as we are.
