Direction: In the following question, two equations numbered I and II are given. You have to solve both the equations and give answer.
I. x2 - 3x + 2 = 0
II. 4y2 - 8y + 3 = 0
Equation I:
x2$ - 3x + 2 = 0
⇒ x2 – x – 2x + 2 = 0
⇒ x(x – 1) – 2(x – 1) = 0
⇒ (x – 2) (x – 1) = 0
⇒ x = 2 or x = 1
Equation II:
4y2$ - 8y + 3 = 0?
⇒ 4y2 – 2y – 6y + 3 = 0
⇒ 2y(2y – 1) – 3(2y – 1) = 0
⇒ (2y – 3) (2y – 1) = 0
⇒ y = 1/2 or y = 3/2
When x = 2, for y = ½, x > y, and for y = 3/2, x > y
When x = 1 , for y = ½, x > y, and for y = 3/2, x < y
∴ No relation can be established.
