Selling price = Marked price - discount price

⇒ 1000 = MP - 20% of MP

⇒ 1000 = MP - 0.2MP

⇒ 0.8MP = 1000

⇒ MP = 1000/0.8 = 1250

∴ Marked price of item = Rs. 1250
