Given below are two quantities named A and B. Based on the given information, you have to determine the relation between the two quantities. You should use the given data and your knowledge of Mathematics to choose between the possible answers.

Quantity A: An express train travelled at an average speed of 100 km/hr, stopping for 3 minutes after every 75 km. A local train travels as a speed of 50 kmph, stopping for 1 minute after every 25 km. If the trains began travelling at the same time, how many kilometres did the local train travel in the time it took the express train to travel 600 km? .

Quantity B: 300
1). Quantity A > Quantity B
2). Quantity A < Quantity B
3). Quantity A ≥ Quantity B
4). Quantity A ≤ Quantity B

Quantity A:

Express Train:

600/100 = 6 hours without stops.

600/75 = 8, so it must have had 7 stops.

So total time = 6 × 60 + 3 × 7 = 381 minutes.

Local train travels at 50 km/h = (5/6) km/minute

In 360 min, it will travel 300 km.

At every 25 km, there will be a stop. So while travelling 300 km, it will stop 300/25 = 12 stops.

Now, we have (360 + 12) minutes to travel 300 km and we need to know what distance the train will travel in the remaining 9 minutes.

Distance = (5/6) × 9 = 15/2 = 7.5 km

∴ Local train travelled 300 + 7.5 = 307.5 km.

Quantity B:

300 km

∴ Quantity A > Quantity B
