Let assume, smaller number as x and larger number as y,

⇒ x/y = 5/7

⇒ x = 5y/7       ----(I)

By the data given in the question,

⇒ 2x = 2y - 30

Substitute the value of Eq(I) in above equation,

⇒ 2(5y/7) = 2y - 30

⇒ 10y = 14y - 210

⇒ 210 = 4y

⇒ y = 52.5

⇒ x = 5 × 52.5/7 = 37.5

∴ value of smaller number = 37.5
