Directions: Study the following information carefully and answer the questions based on it.

Eight persons Arman, Binny, Chinnu, Dinnu, Ellen, Francis, Gouri and Hema live on an eight floors building. The ground floor is numbered 1 and the topmost floor is 8. They run in a race of different meters 2500 m, 4600 m, 5100 m, 6800 m, 7400 m, 8500 m, 9200 m and 9700 m but not necessarily in the same order. The one who runs 9700 m lives on an even numbered floor below 5th floor. There are two persons living between the one who runs 9700 m and Ellen. The one who runs 7400 m lives immediately below Ellen. The ones who live on 3rd and 4th floors run a total of 12200 m. Chinnu lives on an even numbered floor immediate above Binny, who doesn’t live on lowermost floor. The difference between runs by Gouri and Hema is 1700m and neither of them runs 8500 m. Hema runs more than Gouri. Ellen runs more than Chinnu but less than Dinnu. Dinnu doesn’t run 9700 m. The total runs of Arman and Gouri are 7600 m. Only one person lives between Arman and Hema. The one who runs 4600 m lives immediately above Francis. The one who lives immediately above Hema runs less than Hema.

Who among the following runs the highest?
1). Arman
2). Chinnu
3). Dinnu
4). Hema

Persons: Arman, Binny, Chinnu, Dinnu, Ellen, Francis, Gouri and Hema.

Floors: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.

Runs: 2500 m, 4600 m, 5100 m, 6800 m, 7400 m, 8500 m, 9200 m and 9700 m.

1) The one who runs 9700m lives on an even numbered floor below 5th floor.

So, he can be live on 2nd or 4th floor.

Case 1:

If the one who runs 9700 m lives on 2nd floor.

2) There are two persons that live between the one who runs 9700 m and Ellen.

The one who runs 7400 m lives immediately below Ellen.

The ones who live on 3rd and 4th floors run a total of 12200 m.

Case 1:

Ellen must live on 5th floor.

The one who runs 7400 m lives on 4th floor.

The one who lives on 3rd floor = 12200 – 7400 = 4800 m, but we know that there is no person in the group who runs 4800 m. So this case is not correct.

Case 2:

Ellen can live on 1st or 7th floor but we know that the one who runs 7400 m lives immediately below Ellen. So, Ellen can’t live on 1st floor.

Ellen must live on 7th floor and the one who runs 7400 m lives on 6th floor.

We know that the one who runs 9700 m lives on 4th floor. So, 12200 – 9700 = 2500 m.

So, the one who lives on 3rd floor runs 2500 m.

3) The difference between runs by Gouri and Hema is 1700m and neither of them runs 8500m. So only one combination left for them which is 8000m and 5100m and we know that Hema runs more than Gouri. So, Hema runs 6800m and Gouri runs 5100m.

The total runs of Arman and Gouri is 7600 m. Gouri runs 5100 m. So, Arman runs 7600 – 5100 = 2500 m.

Chinnu lives on an even numbered floor immediate above Binny, who is not living on lowermost floor.

So, Chinnu lives either on 6th floor or 4th floor.

Case 2 (a):

If Chinnu lives on 4th floor.

Binny lives on 3rd floor and runs 2500m.

But we know that Arman runs 2500 m.

So, this case is not possible.

Case 2 (b):

If Chinnu lives on 6th floor.

Binny lives on 5h floor.

4) Binny must live on 5th floor and we know that Arman runs 2500m so he lives on 3rd floor.

Only one person lives Between Arman and Hema. Hema must live on 1st floor and runs 6800 m.

The one who runs 4600 m lives immediately above Francis.

Only one place left for Francis which is 4th floor and Binny must runs 4600 m.

Ellen runs more than Chinnu but less than Dinnu. So, Ellen must run 8500 m and Dinnu must run 9200 m.

The one who lives immediately above Hema runs less than Hema.

So, we have Gouri (5100 m) and Dinnu (9200 m).

So, Gouri immediately above Hema because Gouri runs less than Hema and Dinnu must live on topmost floor.
