Let us first understand the meaning of the words:

To be pregnable means to be vulnerable to attack.$

To be disconsolate means to be very unhappy and unable to be comforted.$

To be diligent means to show care in one's work or duties.$

To be despondent means to be in low spirits from loss of hope or courage.$

The only apt options here that can make the sentence meaningful are disconsolate or despondent, viz, B and D.

Therefore, the correct answer is option 4.

Complete sentence:

When Rita didn't receive a call from her interviewer, she became disconsolate/ despondent.
