In a group the average age of 8 people increases by 2 years when two people whose ages were 35 years and 45 years are replaced by two women. Find the average age of 2 women.
36 years
48 years
96 years
41 years
Suppose, the average age of the remaining 6 members is ‘x’ Then
⇒ Total age of 6 members = 6x
Average age of 8 members = (6x+35+45)/8 = (6x + 80)/8
Let the average age of the new women be ‘y’ years
Then, average age of 8 members with new women = (6x+2y)/8
Given, difference in averages = 2
∴ (6x+2y)/8 - (6x+80)/8 = 2
Solving, we get:
⇒ y = 48 years
∴ Average age of 2 women = 48 years
