If 12 men or 20 women or 36 children can do a work in 12 months, then 5 men, 10 women and 15 children can do half of the work in
12 men complete the work in 12 months
∴ 1 man can complete the work in 12 × 12 = 144 months
∴ Work done by one man in one month = 1/144
20 women complete the work in 12 months
∴ 1 woman can complete the work in 12 × 20 = 240 months
∴ Work done by 1 woman in 1 month = 1/240
36 children can complete the work in 12 months
∴ 1 child can complete the work in 12 × 36 = 432 months
∴ Work done by 1 child in 1 month = 1/432
Let ‘x’ be the number of months required by 5 men, 10 women and 15 children to complete the half work
∴ x × (5/144 + 10/240 + 15/432) = 1/2
∴ x/9 = ½
∴ x = 4.5 months
∴ 5 men 10 women and 15 children can complete the work in 4.5 months
