Option 1 needs to be omitted as 'could' indicates past tense form which is not appropriate in the context.

Option 2 is an incorrect option because in this sentence, present continuous tense cannot be used. Moreover, ‘is’ is used with singular form but here, we are talking about an ‘area’ as a whole. Option 4 is also incorrect as we need to use have/has/had + root form of the verb, thus it is also eliminated. Hence, option 3 has the correct usage.

Correct Sentence: In the catastrophic earthquake, none in the area survived.
