In the following question, a sentence has been given in Direct/Indirect speech. Out of the four alternatives suggested, select the one which best expresses the same sentence in Indirect/Direct speech. The visitor said, "Is your mother at home?"

Correct Answer: The visitor asked me whether my mother was at home.

The reporting verb 'said' is changed into 'asked' and to change from direct to indirect the conjunction 'whether' is added.
