  • Cytotoxic, or killer, T cells destroy infected cells.
  • Phagocytes are cells that ingest the pathogen by surrounding and digesting it.
  • A basophil is a type of white blood cell and a type of granulocyte. Basophils contain anticoagulant heparin, which prevents blood from clotting too quickly.
