2x:3x 

10 % of 2x = 10/100 * 2x = x/5 

20 % of 3x = 20/100 * 3x = 3x/5 

x/5 + 3x/5 = (x+3x)/5 ==> 4x/5 

=(4x/5)/5x * 100 = 4x/25x * 100 = 16% 


Short cut method: 

2:3

200 : 300

in 200 = 10% ---> 20

in 300 = 20% ---> 60

20 + 60 = 80 % gain

= 80/500 * 100 = 16%
