In the following question, a sentence has been given in Direct/Indirect speech. Out of the four alternatives suggested, select the one which best expresses the same sentence in Indirect/Direct speech.  James said, ‘Amanda, I will return the book after I have read it.’

In the following question, a sentence has been given in Direct/Indirect speech. Out of the four alternatives suggested, select the one which best expresses the same sentence in Indirect/Direct speech.

James said to Amanda that he will return the book after reading it.


2). James said to Amanda that he would return the book after he has read it.
3).

James said to Amanda that he will return the book he reads it.

Correct Answer: James said to Amanda that he would return the book after he had read it.

All the sentences except Sentence 4 have incorrect usage of tense. Sentences 1 and 3 do not change ‘will’ to ‘would’ and Sentence 2 does not change ‘have’ to ‘has’. Only Sentence 4 is correct.
