Correct option - 3

Let's find out the meanings of the given options :-

Inspire - To influence someone; affect with a specified feeling.

Jitter - Nervousness; fright.

Mollify - To lessen the temper or anger.

Sojourn - A temporary stay.

With reference to the context, option 4 is not related here. Hence, it is eliminated. Now, pressure groups are groups of people who have strong influence on system or government. Thus, no one can influence them or frighten them. Hence, options 1 & 2 are eliminated. Hence, option 3 i.e. mollify is the correct answer.

Correct sentence - The investigation was undertaken primarily to mollify pressure groups.
