The correct answer is 4.

The suitable replacements for the words 'grim' and 'siege' should be bleak, dreary, wretched and blockade, beleaguerment and besiegement respectively. While the first four words mean very serious or gloomy and the last words mean a military operation in which enemy forces surround a town or building.
