Two pipes P and Q can fill a tank in 3 hrs. and 4 hrs. respectively. If both pipes are opened together, then after what time, should P be closed so that the tank is full in 2 hrs. from the start

Two pipes P and Q can fill a tank in 3 hrs. and 4 hrs. respectively. If both pipes are opened together, then after what time, should P be closed so that the tank is full in 2 hrs. from the start

2). 1 hr. 15 min
3). 1 hr. 20 min
4). 1 hr. 30 min

Given,

Pipe P 1 hour's work = 1/3

Pipe Q 1 hour’s work = 1/4

Pipe Q is opened for 2 hours then = 2 × 1/4 = 1/2

Remaining part of tank remain unfilled = 1 - 1/2 = 1/2

1/2 part will be filled by P in = (1/2) / (1/3) = 1.5

Pipe P should be closed after 1 hr 30 min.
