Let the price of the goods is Rs. 1000 per 1000 gm

Given that, The shopkeeper weighs 24% more while purchasing the goods

⇒ He buys 1240 gm of goods instead of 1000 gm

⇒ He pays Rs. 1000 instead of Rs. 1240

The shopkeeper also uses 20% less weight while selling the goods

⇒ He uses 800 gm instead of 1000 gm

⇒ CP of the goods = Rs. 800

If the shopkeeper sells the goods at the CP

⇒ Profit = (1240 – 800) = Rs. 440

⇒ Profit % = (440/800) ? 100 = 55%

∴ Profit percentage earned by the treachery is 55%.
