If a taxi going at 40 km/hr takes 25 minutes to travel a certain distance, by how much should it increase its speed (in km/hr) to travel the same distance in 20 minutes?
When the speed is 40 km/hr, time taken = 25 min. = 25/60 = (5/12) hrs.
Distance travelled = Speed × Time = 40 × (5/12) = (50/3) km
To cover the distance in 20 min.,
Speed of taxi should be = (50/3)/(20/60) = 50 km/hr
∴ The speed should be increased by = 50 - 40 = 10 km/hr.
