In the following passage, some of the words have been left out. Read the passage carefully and select the correct answer for the given blank out of the given alternatives.

Impelled means drive forward. To abjure is to give up. To scour is to thoroughly search for something.

To mar means to 'harm'. 

Scarred means to mark with scar or to stigmatize.

Hence, the only word that fits the blank is marred.

Therefore, the correct answer is option 1.
