The word 'hostile' means 'showing or feeling opposition or dislike; unfriendly' and is not apt here. The sentence mentions that the Brahmin was confused why Buddha was not behaving in that manner thus the correct word here would be 'puzzled' which means 'confused.' The word 'disparaging' means 'derogatory, opinion that something is of little worth' and does not fit in this context. The word 'bold' is a misfit here. The word 'amicable' means 'friendly' and would be incorrect here. Thus option 4 is the correct answer,$
