  • The Securities Contract (Regulation) Act 1956 is the legislation that mandates that all the share trading related activities in India should be controlled. 
  • It is meant to prevent any unfair trading in the securities market of the country. 
  • SEBI also issued the Securities Contracts (Regulation) (Stock Exchanges and Clearing Corporations) Regulations 2012 to regulate the stock exchanges in all respects such as ownership, registration and governance.
