In the initial years, trade policy in our country was primarily aimed at regulating imports having regard to the nascent stage of country?s development and the need to encourage domestic production through import substitution measures. However, with the onset of liberalisation the importance of globalisation through trade and making exports the engine of growth of economy has been recognised.
