The difference between the ages of mother and son was 21 when mother’s age was 43. If father is elder by 3 years to mother, what will be the ages of son when father attains 50 years?
Let the ages of father, mother and son be x, y and z
Given that mother’s age was 43 ⇒ y = 43
Also given that difference between the ages of mother and son was 21
⇒ y – z = 21
⇒ 43 – z = 21
⇒ z = 43 – 21 = 22
∴ Son’s age was 22 years
Also given that father is elder by 3 years to mother,
⇒ x = 3 + y = 3 + 43 = 46
∴ When the age of father is 46 years, the age of son is 22 years
⇒ When the age of father is 50 years, the age of son is 26 years
