A daily wage worker was paid Rs. 1990 during a period of 30 days. During this period, he was absent for 4 days and was fined Rs. 20 per day for absence. He was paid the full salary only for 20 days as he came late on the other days. Those who came late were given only half the salary for that day. What was the total salary paid per month to a worker who came on time every day and was never absent?
1). Rs. 2250
2). Rs. 2500
3). Rs. 3000
4). Rs. 2700
Let ‘x’ be the wage per day.
The worker was absent for 4 days ⇒ He only worked for 30 – 4 = 26 days
He was paid full salary only for 20 days ⇒ He was late for 26 – 20 = 6 days
⇒ He was paid half salary for 6 days
⇒ Amount paid for 20 days = 20 × x = 20x
⇒ Amount paid for 6 late days = (x/2) × 6 = 3x
⇒ Amount fined for being absent on 4 days = 20 × 4 = 80
20x + 3x – 80 = 1990
⇒ 23x = 2070 ⇒ x = 2070/23 = 90
Daily wage = Rs. 90
Salary for 30 days if the worker is neither late nor absent = 30 × 90 = 2700
∴ Total salary = Rs. 2700
