The sentences are joint sentences, joined with the conjunction 'and'. The second sentence uses the verb 'disappeared', which is in simple past tense. So, the verb in the blank must also reflect the same.

The only verb that can make a meaningful sentence is 'flew'. Therefore, the correct answer is option 1.
