Let us take Ram's age as 'x' ,Ram's son's age as 'y' and Ram's uncle's age as 'z'.
It is given that sum of Ram's and his son's age is 48. So,
x + y = 48 -----------> 1
It is also given that the average of the three ages is 40.So,
(x + y + z) / 3 = 40 --------> 2
Substituting 1 in 2 we get,
( 48 + z )/3 = 40
48 + z = 40 × 3
48 + z = 120
z = 120 - 48
z = 72
Hence, Ram's uncle's age is 72.
